Mount Olive Defeats Catawba 4-3 In Fall Regional Matchup

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's tennis team defeated regional opponent Catawba College 4-3 in a fall regular-season matchup. 

The Trojans held the early lead after the doubles round winning doubles 1 and 3. UMO then split with Catawba to win three singles sets each with Mount Olive squeaking out with a 4-3 victory.

Lina Maria Alarcon and Liza Voloshyna made quick work of their opponents in the No. 1 doubles match winning 6-0. Ece Yuksel and Deike Schipper picked up the second doubles win in the No. 3 match downing their foes 6-3 and clinching the doubles point.

In singles action, UMO won the No. 1, 2, and 6 bouts while Catawba took the middle bouts of 3, 4, and 5, to split the singles games.

Alarcon won at No.1 over Una Pandurevic in two sets with a tiebreaker in set two 6-2, 7-6 (7-1). Voloshyna, who played in the No. 2 singles bout won in three tough sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, and Schipper rounded out the Trojans single wins with a clean sweep over her foe 6-0, 6-0.

The Trojans fall season concluded with the match against Catawba. They will return to action in February 2020.
