MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell to the Saints of Limestone College in midweek Conference Carolinas action at Kornegay Arena in Mount Olive, NC. The Trojans fall to 2-6 overall and 0-3 against conference foes, while the Saints improve to 6-5, 3-0 on the season.
The Trojans opened the match with a hard-fought 27-25 win in the first set. The Saints took the second and third sets 25-18, 25-19, after going on several rallies to secure a lead. Mount Olive fought back in the fourth set from trailing 10-4 to tie the set at 13 all before Limestone gained control and closed out the match with a 25-21 set four win.
Mount Olive had three players record eight kills in Kamber Skeen, Ania Keene, and Amara Eziakonwa. Madison Goodman (25) and Mia Dietz (19) shared the setting role as the pair combined for all 44 of the Trojans assists. Jimnelly Del Valle, Keene, and Starr Sergent all recorded double-digit digs with 24, 19, and 10 respectively.
Goodman and Keene each recorded three service aces while Del Valle and Sergent each had two.
The Saints were led by Vanessa Blas with 22 kills while teammate Madysen Williams joined her in double-digits with 15 kills of her own. Limestone setter Mia Bergan recorded 46 of the teams 56 assists as well as 17 digs while libero Bailey Carpenter tallied 31 digs. Blas led the Saints with six service aces on the evening.
The key moment of the match came in the fourth set as the Saints broke at 13-all tie to take a four-point lead, 19-15, and held off the Trojans to win set four 25-21.
The Trojans hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches at Belmont Abbey College on Saturday, Oct. 5. UMO will play Belmont Abbey at 2 PM and follow with a neutral site match against Savannah State at 4 PM. Fans can follow live stats or watch the matches on the Conference Carolinas Digital Network.
