GAFFNEY, South Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's volleyball team fell in straight sets to the Saints of Limestone College on Saturday afternoon in Gaffney, SC. UMO's season ends against the Saints with an overall record of 8-16 and a 4-12 mark against Conference Carolinas foes. Limestone improved to 16-10 overall and 12-4 in conference.
Limestone got out to a quick 8-3 lead to open the first set but Mount Olive came back within two points, 8-6, following three straight kills from the Trojans. UMO stuck with LC through the middle of the set but the Saints opened a five-point lead, 18-13, after three points that went their way. Mount Olive scored a handful more points through the rest of set one but Limestone took the setpoint winning 25-18.
Set two began with the teams trading points, however, the Saints took off on a 10-6 run that put them ahead 15-8 after a bad set from Madison Goodman. Limestone again went on a short run of 7-4 increasing their lead to 10-points, 22-12. Mount Olive scored five points before the Saints got the three they needed to take set two 25-17.
The Saints laid down the hammer in the third set as they quickly took a 10-2 lead over the Trojans. Mount Olive scored only seven more points in the third set as Limestone cruised on to a 25-9 set three win and took the match in three sets.
The Trojans were led by Ania Keene with 10 kills in the match. Nicholle Yeo tallied 15 assists while Madison Goodman added 11 more for 26 of the teams 29 assists. Olivia Olsen led the defense with 12 digs.
The Saints were led by Aidan Rohrer with 12 kills. Madysen Williams added nine and Vanessa Blas seven. Mia Bergan collected 31 assists and Bailey Carpenter tallied 14 digs.
The biggest momentum swing came in the third set when the Saints opened the set with their 10-2 run.
Mount Olive's 2019 season comes to close with an 8-16 overall record and a 4-12 conference mark.
