Trojans Finish Fourth In Conference Carolinas Women's Cross Country Championship

MOUNT OLIVE, North Carolina - The University of Mount Olive women's cross country finished fourth of 12 teams that competed in the 2019 Conference Carolinas Women's Cross Country Championship. Senior Leah Hanle claimed the 2019 Conference Carolinas Runner of the Year honors for the third time in her career finishing first with a time of 21:23.8.

Shortly after the race began the runners spread out throughout the course with Leah Hanle and Amber Owens running one-two a majority of the race. Near the end of the second lap, King's Kirstin Barton overtook Owens and would remain in that order for the remainder of the race. One hundred runners from all 12 league schools competed in the race with 99 finishing.

Hanle led all runners finishing first with her time of 21:23.8 which was nearly two full minutes ahead of the second-place runner from King who crossed the line with a time of 23:12.0. Sophomore Amber Owens finished third overall and was the second Trojan to cross the line with a 23:13.3 mark. 

Lena Kaster, a senior from Gerolstein, Germany, rounded out the top-10 finishers as the third Trojan to cross the line with her time of 24:36.2. Freshman Maddie Carkeet finished 35th overall earning 35 team points crossing the line with a time of 26:36.0. Elizabeth Lopez finished 55th overall and was the fifth Trojan to cross the line running a 27:57.6 time in the women's 6K race. Erin Dillon ran a 28:40.2 time to cross the line 63rd, while Riley Houston and Meredith Lorient finished 77th and 79th respectively.

The Trojans will compete again in two weeks at the NCAA Southeast Regional Championships hosted by Wingate University in Wingate, NC.
